Audience research - Point 9

For the song Why’d you only call me when you’re high I think that the main target audience will be between young teenager and late 20s. It will be a song that people who are possibly experiencing a bad break up or relationship that they can then relate to. It is also a very upbeat and dance/ pop song which will appeal to those who like going out and partying. This song allows for different groups of people to enjoy it for different reasons. Whether that's from going out and dancing to it, or for singing along relating the emotions they are feeling.

With the guidance of the Channel 4, I have come to the conclusion of some groups of people that this song will be targeted at or will appeal and reach out to. The two main groups of people are Mainstream and Aspirant. Mainstream is the start of the young generation where some youths don't really know who they are yet and are very much in to the stereotypically teenage activities. Aspirant is the group of people that keep up to date with trends (they don't create them, just follow them), they love being out, meeting new people and socialising with their friends. Whatever is knew they want to be the first ones to post and know about it. 

If you dive a bit deeper than just Mainstream and Aspirant, the main specific ideal target audience would be 'Townies'. Townies are part of the Mainstream bracket and they are about as mainstream as you can get. They love all the chart songs, going out and are very much into the standard high street shops. 

The reason that 'Townies' have been chosen as the main target audience member because this song is a very dance and pop genre and will most likely be up in the charts. This means that they probably will be listening to it quite frequently. It also is a good song to play in clubs or at parties, therefore it means that it will be played more often or not than when they are out with friends. All of this makes them the most ideal target audience member. However, that's just a very specific type, the two main groups that will be targeted are Mainstream and Aspirant due to the fact that they will be mostly the ones listening and enjoying it. 

Ideal target audience member (Townie)
